Bible Study 2015 Wednesdays at 7pm

Bible Study

Faith formation should be a life long process. Learning about one's faith does not stop  when one receives the Sacrament of Confirmation.

What better way to continue to learn about God but through the scriptures.

Do you ever question how the Bible can speak to you in this present age? Every Wednesday night @ 7pm,resuming on Sept 9th, a small Bible Study group gathers to heard God's words in the Tobin Room of the school.

We are learning about how Paul's Letters speak to us. Sessions are designed so you don't need to attend every class. We welcome anyone even if they could come once a month.

Forthnight for Freedom 2015 preparations

In preparation for the Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Bear Witness, which will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2015, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ staff has once again prepared materials that you may use to celebrate the Fortnight. This year’s theme emphasizes the link between religious freedom and bearing witness to the truth of the Gospel, keeping in mind the sacrifice of so many martyrs for the faith, both past and present.

During the Fortnight, our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. In the secular calendar, we anticipate that the U.S. Supreme Court will rule at some point during the Fortnight (likely around June 29) on four cases concerning the legal definition of marriage in the United States.

The materials below are publicly available (in English and Spanish) through the website www.Fortnight4Freedom.org, so please feel free to distribute widely or provide website links:

1. 14-Day Study Guide on Dignitatis Humanae (note that this is the 50th anniversary of the “Declaration on Religious Freedom” from the Second Vatican Council)

2. Parish Guide to celebrating the Fortnight (including 14 suggestions)

4. A series of examples of International Religious Freedom issues

9Prayers of the Faithful (part of the Call to Prayer for Life, Marriage & Religious Liberty)

10. Holy Hour Template (also part of the Call to Prayer)

Social media can also be an effective tool during the Fortnight; I would encourage you to use all  communications tools that you have access to in order to effectively spread the message in support of religious freedom.

Learn to Use Social Media for Evangelization

Register today -  by Email or call716-847-8393.  It is FREE!  Try out the team at 7PM on:
June 9th - St. John Paul II, Lakeview
June 11th - Our Lady of Pompeii, Lancaster
June 15th St. Joseph, Gowanda
June 16th - St. Leo the Great

This workshop will equip Catholic social media users to create a network that proclaims Good News to all with ears to hear. Participants will learn the essentials for creating a social ministry team, hear about the policies and standards for ethical and safe operation. Participants will learn how to align the megaphones of social media to get the Word out. Participants will discuss powerful ways to mobilize Catholics on the digital continent. Participants are expected to already be active in some way on social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc).

According to Pope Francis faith is not something that we possess. It is something that we share. 'We are all in the "sharing business'.  Catholics represent the single largest religious group using social media. Why isn't our message heard - 24/7/365, everywhere and anywhere via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Youtube? Even as newcomers to the digital continent we have cause for great confidence, because Pope Francis is already one of its most influential citizens. Let's join him in this evangelizing purpose.

Audience: Pastors, principals and the various parish web managers and social media administrators - business manager, school administrator, youth program administrator, faith formation administrator, etc.

Presenters: Jeremy Dolph (Facebook fanatic and youth minister, SS Peter and Paul, Hamburg), Gregg Prince (Department of Communications, Diocese of Buffalo), Deacon Bill Hynes (Tweet-master at St. Benedict Parish and religion teacher extraordinaire at St. Joseph Collegiate Institute), Maureen Poulin (Lifelong Faith Formation, Diocese of Buffalo and Dennis Mahaney (Office for Evangelization and Parish Life, Diocese of Buffalo).

NO COST:  The expenses are paid by a grant from Our Sunday Visitor and the Foundation for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.
